A New Era for NASCAR Streaming
After a twelve‑year hiatus, NASCAR is set to make its comeback on the ESPN App, marking the first time the streaming platform will carry live races in partnership with The CW. The agreement, which runs through 2031, will debut with the Iowa Speedway event on August 8, giving fans a fresh avenue to watch the sport.
The collaboration leverages The CW’s status as the primary broadcaster of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, while ESPN provides the technological backbone through its app. Subscribers to the ESPN Unlimited plan will gain access to more than 800 hours of live CW Sports content, allowing them to follow every green‑flag lap on smartphones, tablets, smart TVs or computers.
This arrangement is not ESPN’s first foray into NASCAR coverage. The network previously held broadcast rights from 1981 to 2000 and again from 2007 to 2014, but the current deal lets the app stream races without shouldering the full rights‑fee burden, easing financial pressures on both parties.
Implications for Viewers
From 2027 onward, the ESPN App will become the exclusive digital home for NOAPS race streaming online, even as The CW continues to air the events on traditional television. The dual‑platform approach is designed to capture a broader audience, especially viewers who no longer have The CW on their cable line‑ups.
Fans can expect a seamless viewing experience, with live race feeds, on‑demand replays and a library of original NASCAR programming all housed within the ESPN App. The partnership underscores a shifting media landscape where traditional sports broadcasting meets over‑the‑top streaming.
