Nine-year-old Noah Lopez, a resident of El Paso, Texas, found himself thrust onto the world’s biggest soccer stage when he was randomly selected to escort a player onto the field during the World Cup semifinal.
His mother, Claudia Lopez, had entered him into a raffle hoping to give her son a glimpse of the tournament, and Noah spent weeks learning a few French phrases in anticipation of possibly walking beside Kylian Mbappé, the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.
