Norway's soccer federation has formally demanded that FIFA president Gianni Infantino step down, arguing that his leadership has become untenable.
A Growing Crisis at FIFA
The call comes as a series of scandals have eroded confidence in Infantino, including UEFA's threat to boycott FIFA competitions and the English Football Association's withdrawal of support for his re‑election in March 2024.
Lise Klaveness, president of the Norwegian federation, said trust in Infantino has been lost due to worsening controversies year after year, and she warned that extraordinary measures are needed to force lasting change within world football's governing body.
A Formal Complaint Looms
In a forthcoming filing with FIFA's ethics committee, the Norwegian federation will raise new allegations concerning the FIFA Forward Enterprise, the much‑criticised profit‑selling initiative, as well as a one‑match ban imposed on Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun. The complaint also references the controversial Trump peace prize proposal that has further fueled criticism.
If FIFA fails to act, the Norwegian federation warns that further legal and organisational steps may follow, potentially reshaping the landscape of international football governance.
