July’s scouting circuit
Louisville basketball coach Pat Kelsey and his staff spent July traversing five high‑profile evaluation events, hunting the next wave of talent for the Cardinals.
The itinerary took them from Richmond, Virginia, where the Puma NXTPro 16 showcase unfolded, to the Nike EYBL circuit in Las Vegas, then to the Made Hoops event in Philadelphia and finally to the Adidas 3SSB camp in Bryan, Texas.
At each stop Kelsey’s eyes were fixed on specific prospects, none more closely than Reese Alston, a 6‑foot‑3 guard who had already drawn comparisons to elite playmakers.
Alston’s team posted two wins during the live period, the highlight a come‑from‑behind victory in which he erupted for 30 points, a performance that underscored his No. 7 overall ranking in the Rivals industry list and his No. 3 spot among point guards.
Accompanying Kelsey were assistants Sean Dixon and John Andrzejek, who split duties across the circuit; Dixon lingered in Richmond while Andrzejek headed to Philadelphia on Sunday to watch forward Aaron Webb, while Ronnie Hamilton joined the Thursday session in Las Vegas.
The coaching duo also made a two‑day swing to Las Vegas, where the Nike EYBL event served as a magnet for top talent, including forwards DeMarcus Henry, King Gibson, CJ Rosser, Moussa Kamissoko and guards Cayden Daughtry, NaVorro Bowman and Chase Lumpkin.
Beyond the 2027 class, the staff kept an eye on several 2028 prospects such as Michai White, Colton Hiller and Will Brunson, while also scouting post players Darius Wabbington and guard Jalen Davis.
Peyton Siva, another assistant, rounded out the trip by spending the weekend in Bryan, Texas, where he observed prospects like post Darius Wabbington, guard Jalen Davis and the highly touted Yann Kamagate, a top‑10 recruit in the ’28 cohort.
The whirlwind schedule illustrates how Louisville’s staff is leveraging every live‑period opportunity to build a comprehensive board for the upcoming recruiting cycle.
