The Pleasant Plains high school soccer team capped a historic season by finishing as the Class 1A state runner‑up, the program’s highest finish to date.
A Season of Milestones
Seniors Bailey Leach and Grace Sabatka anchored the midfield, with Leach netting 51 goals and Sabatka adding 23 throughout the campaign.
Their effort culminated in a 3‑0 loss to Father McGivney in the championship match, where Cardinals goalkeeper Emma Sabataka made eight saves and the team was outshot 13‑1.
Coach Greg Bryan praised the departing seniors for their character and the lasting impact they have had on the squad.
The senior class also included Caroline Willenborg, Mahkayla Nossem, Raelyn Brammer and Hailey Sobieski, each of whom contributed to the team’s rise.
Reflecting on the journey, Leach said the experience of ending their high school careers with a state‑runner‑up finish will remain a defining moment.
The community’s support was evident throughout the season, and the team looks forward to building on this momentum in the coming years.
