A schedule that blends tradition and ambition
The Panthers open the season on August 29, traveling to Stephenville, Texas, where they will meet Tarleton State at 8 p.m., before heading to Waco two weeks later for a showdown with Big 12 power Baylor at McLane Stadium.
A highlight of the schedule is the Labor Day Classic against Texas Southern, slated for September 6 at 11 a.m. CT at Panther Stadium and broadcast on ESPN2. Coach Tremaine Jackson explained that the early kickoff aligns with the team’s preparation for the upcoming Cricket Celebration Bowl, using biorhythms to fine‑tune readiness.
The State Fair Classic will bring Grambling State to the iconic Cotton Bowl in Dallas on September 26, giving the program a national stage and a chance to add another chapter to its storied rivalry.
Later in the season, Prairie View will host Stephen F. Austin on September 19, welcome Texas Southern for homecoming on October 10, and travel to Mississippi Valley State on October 3 before a series of SWAC contests that include games against Southern and Alcorn State.
The regular season will close with road trips to Arkansas‑Pine Bluff on November 14 and Alabama State on November 21, matches that could determine seeding for the SWAC championship game scheduled for December 5 on ESPN2.
Three SWAC members — Alabama A&M, Florida A&M and Mississippi Valley State — are ineligible for postseason play this year due to NCAA Academic Progress Rate penalties, potentially reshaping the conference tournament dynamics.
