Santiago Giménez, the Mexican striker who signed for AC Milan last summer, will not join the club’s preseason tour of Australia and Indonesia.
The 23‑year‑old sustained a second‑degree sprain of his right ankle during Mexico’s quarterfinal match against England at the FIFA World Cup, an injury that has halted his training.
Instead of traveling with his teammates, Giménez will remain in Italy where he is undergoing a structured rehabilitation program supervised by the club’s medical department.
Medical estimates suggest a recovery period of roughly four weeks, meaning the forward could miss the opening weeks of the 2026‑27 season.
New coach’s assessment plans
The absence also means Giménez will miss the first sessions with the newly appointed head coach Rúben Amorim, who is using the tour to evaluate players and assign early roles within the squad.
When he finally returns to group training, the player’s priority will be to complete his rehabilitation and come back in the best possible condition for the upcoming campaign.
