A Milestone in High School Endorsements
Jermaine Cobbins, a 16‑year‑old defensive back from Springfield, Tennessee, has become the youngest football player to sign an endorsement deal with Nike, a milestone that underscores the rising value of name, image and likeness opportunities for high school athletes.
Nike revealed on July 16 that eleven high school players have secured NIL agreements, three of them juniors, signaling the brand’s intent to back the next generation of talent.
The youngster is represented by Tzvi Grossman of Royalty Management Group, and Nike’s executive vice president of global sports marketing, Ann Miller, highlighted the significance of investing in top football prospects.
The agreement comes as Tennessee’s TSSAA began permitting NIL payments for high school athletes in 2022, a policy that has already enabled recruits such as Jared Curtis and George MacIntyre to negotiate substantial deals.
Industry observers note that these endorsements reflect a shifting paradigm in which brands bypass traditional pathways, directly engaging with standout high school athletes and reshaping the recruiting landscape.
