The Soccer in the Streets event held in Atlanta recently brought together more than 100 young participants for a day of soccer drills, science labs and life‑skill workshops, raising in excess of $200,000 for local youth programs.
Fundraiser Highlights Community Investment
Organizers said the fundraiser was designed to remove common obstacles such as registration fees and transportation hurdles, ensuring that children from diverse backgrounds could take part in the activities.
Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy and community engagement, noted that the lessons learned on the field — teamwork, discipline and problem‑solving — are skills that can translate into future engineering and construction careers.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens added that soccer serves as a vehicle for teaching character, leadership and collaboration, values he believes are essential for the city’s next generation.
Corporate Support Fuels Youth Development
Kaseem Ladipo, executive director of Soccer in the Streets, shared how the sport introduced him to his community and continues to provide a sense of belonging for many families, especially as the city prepares to host a half‑million visitors for the upcoming World Cup.
World Cup Momentum
The event’s organizers emphasized that the upcoming tournament is expected to generate a substantial economic boost for Atlanta, supporting local businesses, creating jobs and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a hub for international sport.
