A teenage talent prepares for his first Truck Series race
Tristan McKee, a 16‑year‑old prodigy, is set to make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Richmond Raceway on August 14, just days after celebrating his birthday. The young driver will pilot the No. 77 Chevrolet Silverado, a car he will share with a seasoned crew chief, Chad Walter, who has been appointed to guide his rookie effort.
McKee arrives at Spire Motorsports as part of the team’s Ascent Driver Development Program, a pathway designed to nurture emerging talent. The partnership places him alongside a roster that includes veteran Jeff Dickerson, Spire co‑owner, who has voiced confidence in the teenager’s upside and potential to accelerate the team’s competitive edge.
The schedule he will contest is limited to five events, each chosen to respect his age‑related restrictions. He will compete at tracks that are 1.25 miles in length or shorter, including New Hampshire, Bristol, Phoenix and Martinsville, while also tackling the historic half‑mile short track at Richmond.
Early milestones underline rapid ascent
McKee’s résumé already reads like a seasoned veteran’s. At 12, he became the youngest winner in CARS Tour history, a feat that foreshadowed his later successes. He followed that breakthrough with two victories in the ARCA Menards Series, the most recent coming on debut at Watkins Glen in 2025, and he currently sits second in the ARCA East championship after winning three of five starts this year.
Beyond raw speed, the teenager brings a disciplined approach and a hunger to prove himself on larger stages. Spire’s evaluation over the upcoming five‑race stretch will focus not only on results but also on adaptation to the Truck Series’ unique demands, with the aim of determining how quickly he can progress to full‑time competition.
