The University of Tennessee announced a five‑year jersey patch sponsorship with Knoxville‑based Axle Logistics, a deal valued at $3 million that will see the company’s branding appear on the uniforms of both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Axle Logistics, founded by University of Tennessee alumni, is recognized for its operational excellence and customer‑focused logistics solutions. The partnership marks the first official jersey‑patch agreement for Tennessee’s basketball programs, with the patches set to debut in upcoming exhibition matchups against Xavier on Oct. 15 and Florida A&M on Oct. 27.
A Platform for Growth
The agreement is designed to give student‑athletes a tangible avenue to cultivate their personal brands while gaining real‑world business experience. By working directly with a local enterprise, they will have opportunities to network, develop professional skills and explore entrepreneurial ventures.
Athletics Director Danny White, along with head coaches Rick Barnes and Kim Caldwell, praised the collaboration, highlighting Axle’s alignment with the Volunteers’ values of innovation, integrity and community commitment. They emphasized that the partnership reflects the evolving landscape of college athletics, where commercial collaborations can enhance the student‑athlete experience without compromising academic priorities.
University leaders say the deal also underscores the role of hometown companies in supporting the athletic ambitions of the Volunteer State, reinforcing community ties while providing a model for future partnerships across the collegiate sports ecosystem.
