A Stamp for a Nationwide Passion
The United States Postal Service announced the release of a new North American Soccer forever stamp, timed to coincide with the upcoming FIFA World Cup that will be hosted on American soil.
Art director Antonio Alcalá, known for his work on a series of sports-themed stamps, crafted the design after studying both traditional soccer imagery and contemporary stock photography.
The stamp depicts a soccer player frozen in mid‑air as he strikes a ball, a visual tribute to the exuberant “gooooooooal” shout that Andrés Cantor popularized during the 1990 World Cup.
Capturing the Sound of Celebration
Cantor’s vocal exclamation has become a universal rallying cry, echoing from neighborhood fields to the final match of the tournament, and the stamp aims to freeze that moment in postage.
Issued in panes of twenty, the stamps carry the forever designation, meaning their value will always match the current First‑Class Mail 1‑ounce rate, regardless of future price changes.
