A star‑studded consortium takes the wheel
NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, a seven‑time Cup Series champion, remains the majority owner of Legacy Motor Club as the team welcomes an unprecedented group of eleven high‑profile celebrities into its ownership circle.
The new cohort blends motorsport excellence with achievements from other arenas, featuring IndyCar stalwarts Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti, tennis great Andy Roddick, surfing icon Kelly Slater, and golf champion Chase Utley, alongside NASCAR‑adjacent star Bryce Harper.
Music award‑winner Darius Rucker and television personality Guy Fieri entered the group earlier this year, with Rucker joining in March and Fieri in June, adding a distinct cultural flavor to the venture.
Entrepreneur Jen Rubio, co‑founder of the luggage brand Away, and investment veteran Sam Byrne, formerly of CrossHarbor Capital, round out the roster, bringing entrepreneurial insight and financial acumen to the mix.
A championship‑laden vision
Collectively, the owners boast more than thirty major titles, including five Indianapolis 500 victories, underscoring a shared ambition to translate that success onto the track and into broader cultural relevance.
The partnership, overseen jointly by Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management, currently fields two full‑time Cup Series entries driven by Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek, while Johnson himself will compete in selected races before his scheduled farewell at the 2027 Daytona 500.
Toyota has signed on as the team’s manufacturer for 2024, with plans to field three full‑time entries by 2027, a move that reflects both technical ambition and a desire to broaden the team’s appeal beyond traditional racing fans.
Beyond the track, the group’s diverse background signals a strategic effort to reshape Legacy Motor Club’s identity, marrying sporting competitiveness with a wider cultural narrative that could attract new audiences and sponsors.
