Axle Logistics, a Knoxville-based freight brokerage, announced this week a five-year agreement that will make it the first official jersey-patch sponsor for both the University of Tennessee's men's and women's basketball programs.
Branding Meets Talent Development
The deal goes beyond a simple logo placement; it pairs the brand with a robust influencer program that leverages the growing social reach of Vol athletes, giving them tools to craft personal brands and professional networks.
Founded by University of Tennessee alumni Jon Clay and Drew Johnson, Axle has built its reputation as a non-asset-based third-party logistics provider, offering truckload, less-than-truckload, intermodal and warehousing services across the United States, Canada and Mexico, and it remains one of the largest employers of UT graduates.
Axle's inclusion on the SEC basketball stage underscores a broader shift in the logistics sector, where companies are turning to high-visibility sports partnerships to differentiate themselves in a crowded market and to attract the next generation of supply-chain talent.
The partnership also aligns with Axle's recent recognition on the 2026 Inc. 5000 list, highlighting its rapid growth to a $1 billion-plus revenue footprint and its strategic focus on operational excellence and community engagement.
Tennessee Athletics described the sponsorship as a long-term commitment, signaling that the collaboration will extend well past mere branding and will be woven into the fabric of the university's athletic identity.
The first patch will make its debut in October 2026 during exhibition matchups against Xavier and Florida A&M, marking a milestone that reflects the increasing willingness of logistics firms to invest in public-facing platforms.
