South Carolina’s athletic department has officially announced a new apparel agreement with Nike, ending its previous partnership and signaling a fresh direction for the program’s merchandise and branding.
Coach Dawn Staley, who has guided the Gamecocks to multiple Final Four appearances, said the change will not dramatically alter recruiting dynamics but noted that the Nike brand carries a certain allure for prospective players.
Nike’s expanded footprint in Columbia
The university’s women’s basketball team has long been a recruiting powerhouse, boasting top‑ten classes in seven of the last eight cycles, and the Nike deal adds a layer of resources that could further sharpen its appeal.
Under the agreement, Nike will embed an “A’ja Wilson Integration” clause that involves the star forward in the design of uniforms and footwear, while also positioning her within Nike’s Blue Ribbon Elite NIL program.
Recent signees Chloe Kitts and Joyce Edwards have already secured NIL agreements with Nike, joining a select group of athletes who are part of the Blue Ribbon Elite initiative, underscoring the program’s growing marketability.
The partnership also brings Steph Curry’s eponymous brand into the conversation, as Curry Brand collaborates with the university on limited‑edition sneakers and apparel, reflecting a broader strategy to leverage star power.
